A professor of medicine who has conducted research on stem cells at Northwestern University, Dr. Richard Burt holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Missouri, where he graduated with distinction, and an MD from the St. Louis University School of Medicine, from which he graduated cum laude. Dr. Richard Burt served his residency as a part of the Baylor Clinical Investigator Pathway program at the Baylor College of Medicine from 1984 to 1987, achieving the title of chief resident. He went on to become a biotechnology training fellow in the Laboratory of Experimental Carcinogenesis at the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health.
Early on in his career, Dr. Burt was an active-duty lieutenant commander in the Public Health Service. He has served as a journal referee for well-known medical publications, such as The Lancet and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and has authored or co-authored many papers and articles in his field.
In 1995. Dr. Richard Burt took on the position of assistant professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern. Achieving a full professorship there in 2013, he performs stem-cell transplants as well as research studies.
